internationally acclaimed
repertory company. What does it
take to satisfy him and his dancers?
Knowledge. You can’t just sell him a floor. You have
to know what types of movement it will accommodate, and the
different shoes that will dance across it. More importantly, “you
have to allay [his] dancers’ fears” of injury – from
bare feet sticking to pointe shoes slipping.
Service. Michael Mao expects a lot from his dancers, but
also from a flooring company.

when needed – like the time he shipped a special red
floor from Italy when no one else would. Even when Michael
